EXT/INT - GARDEN HUT - BEDTIME, EVENING STARS
[The sky above has one unusual circle-star]
EVE, ELLE, ADAM, FILE INTO THE HUT, ready for bed: Their conversation is
quieter, slower, more deliberate:
Eve climbs-up-in first, by herself:
Then Adam climbs-up-in, and:
Elle tucks them in, as:
ADAM
Mommy?
(waits for attention)
What kind of star has a circle around it?
ELLE
Where did you see that, Adam?
ADAM
(looks much-about ceiling)
(points-up as through roof)
It's: there, from outside - where it was every night, but it didn't
have a circle around it: It was just big and round, and very bright.
ELLE
Let's see it, Adam. |
Adam uncovers: hops down: Leads Elle back outside while:
Eve slides out, hops back down, by herself, and FOLLOWS OUTSIDE WHERE:
ANGLE: Adam is pointing-up again, at the CIRCLE-STAR: Elle is looking: And Eve,
arriving, looks up:
ELLE
(gazing, exasperates)
Dear, God of all harmony: What have you planned for us?!
(resumes)
Adam: How long have you seen that star?
ADAM
It's been there about a month, and getting brighter than all the other
stars: But it doesn't move like a planet or comet.
EVE
What is it, mommy?
ELLE
It's a supernova, Eve: A star that was, ten times bigger than our sun -
and burned ten thousand times faster and hotter, than our sun - then it
burst-open, with the brilliance of ten billion, suns.
EVE
(ponders 2 beats)
How much is a billion?
ADAM
A huge, whole galaxy of stars!
ELLE
Remember how we practiced counting to a thousand by counting ten tens of
ten?!
EVE
Yes.
ELLE
If we practice counting to a thousand, again and again until we've practiced
a thousand times, we've counted a thousand thousands: which is a million:
Then, counting to a billion is doing all that, as many times practiced
again.
ADAM
Will there be people coming from the supernova to visit us?
ELLE
It's far away, Adam, but not too far away - they'll find planets elsewhere,
and it may be thousands of years still, before they get as far as we are.
ADAM
Mr. Gabriel said we came from a supernova long ago, before we lived on
our spaceship: How did we find this planet?
EVE
(retorts)
Adam: Stop telling stories about Mr. Gabriel.
ELLE
There are planets and stars everywhere, Adam: in every direction.
ADAM
(to Eve)
Mr. Gabriel was my teacher: He told everyone the truth.
ELLE
Adam, hush: Eve would have loved Mr. Gabriel, too. |
Elle, Adam, Eve, WATCH.
